For Sentimental Reasons
Film
For Sentimental Reasons is a final tribute to Hall, Phillips and Wilson’s bold and majestic Myer Coorparoo Shopping Centre (1960) before its regrettable demise in early 2015 as part of a process of urban gentrification. Located on Brisbane’s inner southside, the building created the first full service suburban shopping experience outside of Brisbane’s central business district, and holds many a fond memory in the collective heart of Brisbane locals. For Sentimental Reasons was exhibited as part of the State Library of Queensland (SLQ)’s Hot Modernism exhibition, in an effort to draw attention to a perhaps overlooked gem of Queensland’s iconic mid-century architectural movement.
